Can you do it all by yourself or would you like some help?
This isn't said in a threatening way, nor is it intended to be any sort of a put down. I'm thrilled if he can accomplish something by himself and more than happy to assist him if he needs or wants help. But I've found, more often than not, the toddler really does want to do it himself.
