I love advent. We didn't celebrate growing up, and from the moment I heard that there was such a celebration I wanted to know more. We started using advent calendars a couple of years ago. The girls love it, and I do too. I'm not sure what we'll manage for this year. We've got a lot going on (kitchen renovation, church Christmas play, etc.) but I want to make a point to make advent special--a few moments a day where we focus on what the season is about.
I included a link to your site on my blog. :-)

I love, love, LOVE Advent Calendars. I grew up in a non-religious home, but we still had three secular Advent calendars. I have a felt one now for my boys. Each day we add a piece to the Nativity until Baby Jesus arrives on Christmas Eve.
I have a lot planned this year: it's a crazy month of parties, home traditions, church commitments, etc. but even so my goal is to s.l.o.w. d.o.w.n and enjoy the rhythm of the season.
I made a felt advent calendar a couple of years ago and my children look forward to its appearance every year!

Hi there, I've really been enjoying your blog - so great for newcomers such as myself! I don't really have a favourite advent tradition yet as this will be the first year where I feel I will have celebrated it 'on purpose'. My Daughter is 16mths old - my husband and I were drawn to Waldorf philosophies about 9 mths ago and are so excited to be on this journey. There is so much to learn and it's a little daunting as we're just beginning, but blogs such as yours are an invaluable resource and inspiration. THankyou so much!
We did not celebrate advent growing up, so I am just discovering it with my own children. We love advent calendars, but look to blogs like yours to inspire us with new ideas to celebrate the season.
growing up, the only tradition towards Advent was the lighting of candles at church. It all seemed very apart from the actual season, until I decided to homeschool my children and began reading Steiner and other things. Spending time doing those little "somethings" each day, things that bring us together as a family. :)
One of our favorite Advent traditions is to bake bread men, and to deliver them to our neighbors on St. Nicholas Eve.
We haven't been Waldorf educating, my kids go to public school. However, a dear friend introduced me, and it rings so true to my soul. This year will be the first time we've really celebrated Advent, and I really hope it will be a new tradition. Each night we'll listen to a chapter of the Cinnamon Bear, open one door on our Playmobile Advent Calendar (a new gift from grandma), and read a story. The only thing that we are bringing from previous years is the Cinnamon Bear. I'm looking forward to all the new traditions!
I wrote about it on Facebook! :)
My goals? To take the commercial out of Christmas and replace it with what really matters.
I'd love to bring the beauty of Advent to life with my little one.

We're new to the Waldorf traditions and this will be our first Advent. My favorite tradition (looking at others' traditional) is the advent spiral (both the small wooden candle holders and the spiralwalk),I have a soft spot for ritual, it speaks to my soul. I love anything that brings light into the darkness of winter.
my favorite memory of advent comes from when i was a child, lighting the candle each week to mark time.
i haven't thought of it in years until i started reading your posts on the advent. i think it would be great to start a little tradition with my kids, they enjoy our spiral walk we do every solstice.
i have all of your seasons of joy curriculum and use it with my 2 children. i love them!
just blogged about this great giveaway here:

I don't have any advent traditions yet but I hope too. My children are 8 and 4 years old. This year we want to slow down and focus on family. We are new to waldorf and want to learn more.

This year is the first we are celebrating advent, so I am learning as I go. Looking forward to the journey.
Wonderful give away!
Our newest (as in only two years) advent tradition is to eat dinner together in front of the fire.
love love love this! I just started celebrating this with the kids
Love Advent and have been looking for good ways to celebrate it with my kids! Looking forward to seeing your take...
I love every "season" i have gotten from you. I've gone from homeschooling to lead teacher at a Waldorf Preschool. (My daughter is a 3rd grader and I have two in college I home schooled until high school) I still consult your books!!
My favorite Advent tradition is a path similiar to yours but following golden stars. We read a story a night from a special collection of stories and light our candle in our advent wreath. This year we made a list of 20 acts of kindness to do over Advent. My daughter is very excited.
Happy holidays to all! Christine

My favorite advent tradition is the advent wreath and lighting a candle each week. We did this growing up in my family, so I think that continuity is what really fills me up this season, even as I imbue the wreath with more and more meaning.
peace and all good

my favorite time is the lighting of the candles
The advent calender :)

I grew up in Germany and advent was always such a wonderful time of year. I can remember gathering in my mom's best friend's basement, which would be completely covered in greens. We'd sit in the middle of all the greens and make advent wreaths, parents chatting, kids playing. I hope my children have the same sense of wonder and joy through our traditions that I had through mine!
I haven't experienced celebrating Advent. My hopes are for my family to continue to be blessed and grow in the spirit. I wish the best for our nation and everone. garrettsambo@aol.com
We've never done any Advent traditions (sadly...as my kids are now almost six). But this year I bought an advent calendar and I'm looking forward to that as a tradition and hope to create more!

we sort of do advent in that we have activities for 12 days leading up to the solstice, they include things like, making wreaths, a star walk, a yule log (yum!), and lots of baking together.
Oh this looks lovely!!!
I would love this! My favorite advent tradition is making an advent "chain" of family activities and good deeds to do each day thoughout advent.
can't believe i've never found your blog! so exciting! and so is your new book!! yay!! this is our first year celebrating advent in our home (other than the advent spiral we help to host) and your book will come in handy! ;)
We like to make a gingerbread house during advent. It is usually left on the mantel all year--some have been up longer. I'd like to include more thougthful activities as well.
We love building our nativity scene day by day, coordinating with the stones, plants, animals and people weeks and bringing the shepherds and wise men in during the week after Christmas.
Love your stuff and hope to win the ebook!
